OUTREACH

The process of informing target audiences about opportunities to watch and engage with the media. This often includes reaching out to schools, member organizations and other existing networks that are seeking relevant media, conducting extensive online messaging to target audience segments and seeking press coverage.

AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT

The process by which the target audience is asked to go from passive viewing to active participation in the subject matter – the most critical leap in achieving social change. This often involves partnerships with NGOs and supplementary media and tools – discussion guides, fact sheets, student curriculum, online action steps, concrete ideas for community organizing, interactive web-based games, online discussion forums etc.

SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH FILM

Quality Film or Media is the foundation for distribution, outreach and audience engagement strategies. Increased Public Awareness is a critical building block for individual and social change. Increased Public Engagement indicates a change in attitudes, beliefs and behavior and a shift from awareness to individual action. Strengthened Social Movement shows a shift to collective action and strengthened advocacy organizations. Social Change is the ultimate goal. While it is often a long-term proposition, there are concrete and incremental indicators of change.

SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT

There are several indicators to help us measure the social return on investment including; film festival acceptances, level and depth of distribution of produced materials, awards, reviews, aggregate audience size, press coverage, online interactions, petitions, letter writing to elected officials, related event attendance, enhanced Nonprofit initiatives, engagement of new audiences, collaboration with new organizational networks, changes to local, state, federal and international laws and policy.
